A few weeks after I got to the
554 in Osan, Korea in 1975 a group of us went down to Punsan to pick up the
heavy equipment being sent over from Thailand. This equipment was coming in on
a ship that had a stop in the PI to drop off some equipment and step and a
half. When the ship arrived I was assigned to go down in the hole of the ship
and move the equipment to the opening to unload.
While doing this I was talking
with a crew member and told me a story about step and a half. He said he was
sick while they were in port in Thailandand the first day after they left
port. He went to eat and heard that they had a horse on board that liked to
drink Crown Royal and eat cigarettes, so he got his bottle of Crown
Royal and went down to see this horse. When he got to the horse he poured some
Crown in a cup and the horse put his tongue into the cup and lapped up all the
Crown. So he took out a cigarette and handed it to Step and Step turned his
nose up to it, so he thought the story was only half true. Then he lit the
cigarette and then Step took it and ate it. He said so he and that crazy horse
got drunk.
